Mariam interned at the Beruit office of the National Democratic Institute. For decades, NDI has been at the forefront of promoting democratic norms and civic engagement across the globe. In Lebanon, NDI has been incredibly active in candidate training, election monitoring, and building coalitions of multi-sectoral leaders to bridge sectarian divides. This past fall, Lebanese women made significant strides in the municipal elections. Mariam worked closely with NDI staff to help build a national caucus of women municipal officials. In that role, she designed and implemented trainings to build trust among the women as well as help them identify key issues they could collectively advocate and legislate upon.
