Emily Polak

Roy Family Fellow, Seattle Women’s Commission, Washington

Emily interned for the Seattle Women’s Commission to conduct a survey of women living in Seattle’s tent city. By creating, conducting and analyzing a survey of female tent city residents, Emily aimed to increase the Commission’s capacity for recommending resources and services. Through this collection of qualitative measurements and anecdotal stories, the Commission hoped to determine if access to health care, including reproductive health care, is different when a woman lives in tent-housing compared to long-term or transitional shelters. Emily supported the Commission by drafting recommendations for improved access to services for low-income, often-marginalized women and their families
