The Harvard India Center hosted and collaborated with Amiya, a doctoral student at the Harvard T.H.Chan School of Public Health, as she studied cancer registration and its implications for health equity in India. Amiya conducted a mixed methods study on how cancer registries measure the burden of breast, cervical, stomach, mouth and lung cancer in India, and whether it is possible to measure the burden of cancer disaggregated by wealth, caste, gender and geographic location. This project also examined how cancer data are used to design programs in India, the strengths of cancer registration in India, and opportunities to improve cancer registration to monitor equity. This project is supported by the Harvard India Center and the Women and Public Policy Program at the Harvard Kennedy School.
