There are about 64,000 registered Syrian refugees in Jordon, of which 51% are women and 52% are children under 18 years of age. As the Syrian crisis enters into its fifth year, the humanitarian situation for refugees in Jordan has been in continual decline, due to increasing funding shortfalls. As a Social Policy intern, Neeti Katoch worked with UNICEF and the Ministry of Finance in Jordan to track, assess, and analyze the social sector spending on women and children in Jordan, with a focus on Syrian refugee population. She developed and piloted a public finance tool which ensured that children, women and poor families are not marginalized in both the actual public sector allocations as well as the budgetary decision-making process.
